CAROLINE CARTER

Natural Science Educator

Caroline Carter is a lifelong learner always fascinated by the natural world. Having grown up in Austin, she had the opportunity to witness the monarch migrations year after year, watching each phase of the life cycle from her backyard. This sparked her lifelong passion for insects and other arthropods. She spent her childhood catching moths, beetles, and bees to observe. She followed this passion, getting a degree in Environmental & Conservation Biology and Philosophy from Furman University. There, Caroline spent her summers doing research exploring insect-plant interactions and performing dragonfly biodiversity surveys. In her spare time, she reads and does macrophotography.

Caroline joined the Westcave team as a Natural Science Education Intern in 2025, but was soon after brought on as a Natural Science Educator. Her goal is to help people form lasting, meaningful connections with the natural world. She feels grateful to be able to share the geology, flora, and fauna of Westcave with the public and contribute to equity in environmental education.
