Mission Statement

The Westcave Preserve Corp. Board of Directors adopted its current mission statement on October 16, 1999:

The volunteers, Board and staff of Westcave Preserve are dedicated to sustaining this unique ecological treasure and offering it as a scientific and educational resource to the community at large. We will provide a variety of programs for children and adults with the goal of inspiring greater environmental conservation and awareness. We seek creative solutions and strive to build a community of caring neighbors with the shared goal of ensuring that Westcave's ecological diversity and exceptional beauty remain intact for future generations.

The Vision

With diminishing public lands, environmental awareness and education is becoming increasingly important in today's society. Developmental demands continue to place a high priority on protection of open space and nature preserves. LCRA and WPC are committed to work in harmony to ensure protection of this valuable resource for generations to come. Together, we will provide an exemplary model for learning-an environmental research facility for all socioeconomic groups, the children and adults of Central Texas and surrounding Hill Country communities. Westcave Preserve will increase its accessibility to programs for all visitors and provide access to a natural resource for research on the fragility and uniqueness of Central Texas watersheds. We will also present this preserve as a model for environmental education, conservation and land stewardship.
